Ignore the trendy title.  Hyman's memoirs, subtitled Dispatches from an Almost Hip Life , are perfect fare for anyone disappointed with their not-quite-Sex-in-the-City experiences in the Big Apple.  Hyman rehashes all the familiar New York stories, from first dates gone awry to sweaty studio apartments, while managing to make it fresh and comical.  Villard;   $13.95.
